Lunar Eclipse, August 28, 2007 | |||||||||||||
|
This pretty eclipse happened from about 3:30 MDT to dawn. A little early to be out, but worth the effort as the earlier clouds cleared up and the night was very dark and clear. I saw several nice meteors while watching the eclipse. I somewhat accidentally recorded a video of of the sky over the evening with my allsky camera. The rate isn't linear, since the camera only records moving events: earlier in the evening the clouds, and all the later clear sky frames have meteors in them. You can see the Moon decrease in brightness and then start to get bright again near dawn. All the images below were made using an unguided Canon 300D and a 500mm Maksutov lens. |

![]() UT 10:31, mid-totality. 2 second exposure at ISO 800. The star at 5:00 is magnitude 7.76 HIP 110439. The stars at about 8:00 are magnitude 7.78 and magnitude 8.60. Ordinarily it would be very difficult to image such dim stars this close to the full Moon. |
