About Me

Chris Peterson

I'm an astronomer who moved to Guffey back in the mid-1990s for its dark skies (something that was very lacking in Southern California). Living in the mountains, it is impossible to miss the flowers that come with Springtime. The first years up here were part of a long drought, leading up to the devastating (and uncomfortably close) Hayman fire in 2002. Until then, the flowers were nice, but didn't seem all that abundant. I guessed we might have a few dozen species. But the last few years have been wet ones, and I started noticing flowers I'd not seen before. So on our walks and hikes, I began taking my camera (sometimes a Canon 300D, but more often the tiny and convenient Canon SD940 IS). It was only when I began studying the images that I realized I'd found over 100 different varieties.
